Sarajevo Survival Guide

Handy On-Line Phrase Book

What Time is it here?

1)
What's Happening in Town?

Concerts, Museum Exhibitions, Special Events - all listed in the Navigator. Maps and other useful resources on the website
http://www.sonar.ba/index.php?lang=en

2) Gym and Aerobics Classes

Hotel Europa

Brand new health club with state of art equipment: two treadmills; two stairmasters; two bikes, and a big aeobics studio. KM 10 a visit - about $7.50. Fantastic staff, friendly, clean. I'm there at 9 a.m. and have the place to myself.

3) Bosnian Art

Galerija Paleta

H. Kresevljakovica 13

Forget the kitsch that you can buy in the Bascarsija. Buy some paintings and support local Bosnian artists. In 20 years you will still be glad you did.

4) Best Internet Cafe in Town

Though it is easy to find free Wifi in the cafes, and with an iPhone and a Skype telephone number calling is free, sometimes you just need a computer with cable connection.

Internet Klub Click

Kundurziluk (in Bascarsija)

No smoking, English, you can use your own computer or theirs, great hours, comfortable in all ways.

5) All purpose Sarajevo website

sarajevo.wordpress.com

Restaurants

Biban's (just tell the cab driver "kod Bibana") - pub food with an amazing view of the city

Park Princeva - more serious Bosnian specialities with an amazing view of the city

www.parkprinceva.ba

Iza Hrida br. 7, Sarajevo

Dveri Restaurant

http://www.dveri.co.ba/

Right in the heart of Bascarsija

7) Guided hikes in BiH

Fikret Kahrovic - Bosnian Mountain Tours

Write to Fikret and ask to be placed on his weekly distribution list. He describes the planned hikes, level of difficulty, meeting place. Literally....you will meet ambassadors, EU specialists, US students...a variety of ages and backgrounds

Green Visions - You can trust them

Challenges to Financial System Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina

I plan to study the structural aspects of financial fragility in the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I would like to determine the patterns of response by the commercial banking system and the manufacturing and industrial sectors to the regime of monetary and fiscal discipline imposed by the ten year currency board regime.

A secondary goal is to study proposals - both from within the BiH academic community and from the Balkan region - that are focused on monetary system reform and the development of regional monetary integration and cooperation with the European Union as well as within a Southeast European zone.
